May 24, 2018 at 14:34 comment added Devil07 I think Therac's point about engine failure requirements is the biggest problem with re-engining the B747-8. With four engines, a single engine failure results in a 25% reduction of power, but with two massive engines, thats a 50% reduction, so the single remaining engine would have to be able to climb the entire 447 tons. Its not enough for 2 engines to match the take-off power of 4 engines.
