Runup at the end gives a last chance to get the engine hot and clear them up prior to taking the runway. At Nantucket for example, if you are parked near the intersection of 15 and 24, but are taking off to the northeast on 06, then you would taxi almost the full length of 24, past the airport and FBOs and other general parking. Plenty of time for plugs to foul, especially if you had forgotten to lean out the mixture while taxiing, for example. | |
