Jul 9, 2015 at 20:56 comment added KeithS @reirab - It's not legal to enter any tower-controlled space without a radio unless you had an in-flight radio failure. Even class D towers will want you to check in. Circling the airspace with your transponder on 7600 is the cue to the tower to haul out the spotlight.
Dec 27, 2014 at 9:01 comment added reirab @falstro It's perfectly legal to fly VFR without a radio at uncontrolled fields, but it's not legal to even enter Class C or Class B airspace without first making radio contact with the controller, is it? Of course, if you have a radio failure and the only airport around where you can reasonably land is a controlled field, then you don't really have a choice, but you should squawk 7600 in that case.

May 9, 2014 at 14:13 comment added shortstheory How does is the light gun used to transmit messages? Does it just send pulses of light (a la morse code)? I'm withholding a +1 till I get an explanation XD
May 9, 2014 at 13:17 comment added Jamiec ... or that its their receiver/headset not working, and that they're transmitting just fine.
May 9, 2014 at 13:07 comment added Farhan Nice answer. Please add that pilot should also continue to transmit on radio, even when it has failed. It could be that the radio would transmits some messages.
