Nov 18, 2016 at 20:01 comment added Criggie The other part of not having a full load of fuel onboard, is that there's less to burn should the landing go badly. A full load of burning jet fuel will hamper evacuation efforts severely.

Nov 18, 2016 at 14:38 comment added Raw N @Jamiec That it does. I already had a safe landing in mind. I edited the question to clarify what I meant by landing as pointed out by one of the users in the comments section.
Nov 18, 2016 at 14:34 comment added Jamiec I note you've subtly changed this question, does my answer still address your question or is there something more you wanted to know?

Nov 18, 2016 at 13:18 comment added Romeo_4808N As long as you don't exceed the maximum landing weight of the aircraft, you should be fine.

Nov 18, 2016 at 12:52 comment added Peter Maybe we should consider "emergency" e.g. one or even both engines lost, so you are probably in range of a runway, but cannot dump fuel in the remaing time. I assume yes, but you will likely damage the landing gear, the airframe or even the runway.

Nov 18, 2016 at 12:44 comment added JustSid Those big tubeliners are well over their maximum landing weight with full fuel tanks, so I will guess that the answer is no. They can however dump fuel, or just fly circles to burn it (both have happened) before returning to an airport.
