May 5, 2016 at 23:23 comment added Thunderstrike @Richard or a truck driver. There's plenty of non-passenger commercial flying.
May 5, 2016 at 16:05 comment added Richard @LieRyan - He mentioned flying a helicopter commercially. That, assuming we're sticking with your analogy, would put him in at least the same category as a bus driver.
May 5, 2016 at 14:22 comment added Lie Ryan @Richard: I don't think OP is taking about flying a commercial airliner, but rather a private/GA aircraft? There's a big difference between having suicidal thoughts while driving/flying a private aircraft/car, and having suicidal thoughts when driving an airliner/bus full of passengers.
May 4, 2016 at 16:57 comment added Richard For the record, I don't own an airline, but if I did, I would have very very (very) serious concerns about hiring someone with a history of suicidal thoughts.

May 4, 2016 at 1:42 comment added Pondlife If you aren't already an AOPA member then you should definitely join. They offer medical advice and there are a lot of detailed discussions in their member forums (the medical one is moderated by an AME) about depression, meds etc. But ultimately you'll have to see an AME to get advice on your personal situation.

May 3, 2016 at 22:18 comment added Trace @TylerDurden Yes, but that's making the assumption that anyone with depression is automatically a murderous psychopath. If that were the case, you'd see that kind of news daily. That guy wasn't just depressed, he was mental.
May 3, 2016 at 22:01 comment added Thunderstrike Hi! Welcome to Aviation.SE. Since you mention AOPA, can we assume that you are interested of the situation in the United States? You can edit the text and add an 'FAA' tag to help narrow down the question :)
