Jun 29, 2015 at 6:20 comment added jwenting and then there's reaction time, detection range, etc. etc. Your cone for a successful intercept at those ranges and speeds is extremely small, same problem you have with intercepting ballistic missiles and even worse, the target can turn out of the cone...

Jun 29, 2015 at 3:26 comment added cpast Higher speed and flight ceiling doesn't necessarily mean it can be shot down -- the SR-71 has a very good head start on missiles that are launched against it, meaning range is critical.
