Of course, nearly any size airplane could be designed to carry a nuclear bomb (though dropping it would be suicide for many of them, especially the ultralights you mention,) but I think the OP was asking primarily about why military aircraft are designated as being able to carry nuclear weapons or not. As the other answers have stated, this comes down to needing the proper safety mechanisms and the capacity to carry the form factor of the bomb(s) to which you have access. | |
