The amount of fuel an aircraft burns during a specified time period or for a specified distance; also known as "fuel burn".

Fuel consumption (also known as fuel burn) can refer to either of two things:

  • Fuel Flow: The amount of fuel used per time. This depends on altitude, temperature and power setting.
  • Fuel Economy: The amount of fuel needed to fly a given distance. It typically depends on the chosen altitude and speed as well as environmental conditions like e.g. enroute winds.

Use this tag for questions about fuel consumption. Questions about regulations should be tagged instead, questions about fuel calculation should be tagged and questions about optimizations should be tagged .
