On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

I am nominating myself because I feel I can dedicate a fair amount of time to the task and this could help the community, in particular when dealing with (thankfully rare) abusive or spammy posts. I hope that my persistence in monitoring the review queues helps in convincing you :)

As I mentioned in my previous candidacy, this would be my first moderator appointment in a StackExchange site, but I believe that some experiences I had in the past, both on SE and on other websites will help me to deal with what might be expecting me here.

And I will repeat myself again, saying that I am also a strong supporter of mutual understanding and I would continue down this path during my appointment; I realise that sometimes this might come across as confrontational, but I think a community thrives on open discussion aimed at finding common ground, be it with meta posts or chat. This means that if I will have doubts, or if I disagree with the community, I will be the first to question myself and ask on meta (or chat) to openly discuss the matter.

I would like to nominate myself for moderator for the following reasons:

  • I have been with this site since Open Beta, so I know the dynamic of this site and how moderation operates here.

  • I am very active in the review queues and most other non-mod moderation duties.

  • I have had moderation experience on several social media groups, one of which has over 5,000 members.

For those wanting to know about my aviation background, I spent four years in a high school air cadet program and I am currently studying for my Bachelors in Aerospace Engineering.

I was one of the beta users for Aviation.SE, and I was very active in the opening period, to recruit users to the site and develop some of the UAV and Unpowered topics.

I have done a fair bit of moderation activity on others sites, including StackOverflow (though I have never had full moderator privileges). I am very conversant with the theory of moderation, and other studies of community dynamics. I have also designed corporate social intranet site.

I would be glad to serve this community further by keeping a regular watch on the mod queues, improving post quality, and looking for tag curation opportunities.

I'm nominating because I believe in this site, I find it very useful, and I don't want the lack of moderators that we've had for the last few months to happen again.

Although I'm not as active on this site as others, I already moderate two other sites on the SE network, so I appreciate the size and nature of the commitment and how to use the moderation tools. On those sites I've set an example of positivity, of assuming good faith, and helping problem users to contribute better to the community. The only reason I don't have the review badges on Aviation is that I always find the review queues empty on this site: a testament to the strength of our community. Although I don't have a diamond on this site, I've been filling in while we've had no active moderators, to make sure SE's community managers (CMs) are aware of the problem. It was my initial comment to a CM that led to us having this election in the first place!

As well as the usual moderation duties, I'd seek to expand the audience of this site. I've already tried to promote the site among my local GA community, and I'm interested in looking into different ways to grow the site.

Hello everyone. I would very much like to apply to moderate this site. A few bullet points about me and as follows

  • I am a PPL with roughly 250 hours.
  • I am an avid aviation enthusiast and have been since I can remember.
  • I have experience moderating other online forums for more years than I would like to admit.
  • I moderate one of our more (ahem) contentious stack exchange sites. I am hoping this stack causes less conflict, but I am able to bring the calm, unbiased and fair moderation ability over here.

My answers to the moderator questions can be viewed here.

I look forward to any feedback.

This election is over.
